NH DOE releases Potential Environmental, Economic and Energy Impacts in New Hampshire from Development of Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Maine assessment

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Energy announced today the release of the “Potential Environmental, Economic and Energy Impacts in New Hampshire from Development of Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Maine” assessment.
“Offshore wind has the potential to become a major part of New England’s energy future, and better information will benefit New Hampshire as we seek to take advantage of opportunities,” said Jared Chicoine, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Energy. “This assessment of the impacts of the deployment of offshore wind on New Hampshire’s environment, energy system, and economy will be valuable as we chart a path forward on this developing technology. I thank Normandeau Associates for their hard work on this report.”
Normandeau Associates, Inc. prepared the “Potential Environmental, Economic and Energy Impacts in New Hampshire from Development of Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Maine” assessment. The contract was funded by an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation of $250,000. The goal of the assessment was to provide elected officials, policymakers, stakeholders, and the public with information necessary to evaluate:
- Economic development opportunities
- Potential environmental impacts
- Potential impacts to fisheries and the fishing industry
- Offshore wind impacts on New Hampshire’s future energy needs
