April is Dig Safe Month

For over 38 years, our Governor’s Proclamation of April as Dig Safe Month has had a substantial impact in raising awareness of the Dig Safe program, keeping the citizens of New Hampshire safe from the hazards of utility accidents.

Damage to an underground facility is dangerous, costly, and causes disruption of vital utility services. This is why both State and Federal laws require anyone to notify Dig Safe before digging on public or private property.

The New Hampshire Department of Energy is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of the “Dig Safe” law, and they, along with our member utility operators in the state, appreciate Governor Sununu’s consideration to proclaim April as Safe Digging Month once again for 2024.

Dig Safe is a not-for-profit organization, providing a free, state-mandated safety service for both property owners and contractors.  We serve as a clearinghouse that notifies participating utility operators of a company or person's upcoming excavation project.

Each utility then dispatches their locating technician to mark out the location of their buried facilities with colored paint, flags, or stakes, so that accidents are avoided.
